We have established a national facility for research, education and technology development in general Tissue Optics and Microcirculation Imaging (TOMI). Located in the Department of Physics at the National University of Ireland, Galway - the mission of the TOMI facility is to promote better healthcare through research and advancements of biophotonics technology - bridging the gap between the physical and life sciences. Our research contributes to pivotal areas such as the non-invasive diagnosis of skin cancer, inflammation and tumour angiogenisis and microcirculation to name but a few. Our activities include optical imaging of both in vivo and in vitro tissues using a wide range of state-of-the-art technology and expertise including:

  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Photoacoustic Tomography (PAT)
  • Optical Micro-Angiography (OMAG)
  • Laser Speckle Perfusion Imaging (LSPI)
  • Tissue Viability (TiVi) Imaging
  • Raman Spectroscopy

Further details of individual projects may be found on our group website whcih will introduce you to our group and the research carried out by our team at NUIG, bringing you the most up to date information about our activities and findings. Please feel free to submit any comments about our site or work - we welcome collaboration and input.
